My journey to become a Sports Therapist started in 6thForm, where I studied BTEC Sport. It consisted of units such as Sport & Exercise Massage, Sports Injuries and Human Anatomy. This intrigued me to pursue a career in Sports Therapy because I thoroughly enjoyed learning about how the body works and how it should be treated. Due to this I wanted to expand my knowledge further.
As a former athlete myself competing at a high level, I know it can take a toll on the body. As part of a team I know how frustrating it can be when you become injured, as you don't want to let yourself, your team or coach down. This is another reason why I aspire to work within this industry to not only treat the general public but also competitive athletes.
At 6 years old I began figure skating. I started as a solo competitor and then joined a synchronised skating team a few years later. I skated till I was 21 and within those 15 years me and the team have had many achievements including becoming British Champions multiple times; being selected to represent Team GB at the World Championships for 3 consecutive years and being able to travel around the world.
Figure skating has not been the only sport in my life. I have participated in various sports and clubs such as netball, football, basketball, rugby and athletics. My best achievement being becoming double Island champion in shot putt and discus, which resulted in me being able to represent the Isle of Wight at the Hampshire Games.
My career in competitive sport was an amazing experience and I carried on that desire to compete at university by playing netball for the university for 3 years.
